Company History

In 1888 Alphonse Herga, a Swiss watchmaker opened his doors for business in Queen Street, Brisbane, Queensland. In 1894 Frederick John Bright was employed and the business has been subsequently owned by four generations of the 'Bright' family. The Company began selling and repairing survey equipment in the early 1900's and has since become the largest independent distributor of Survey, Laser and GPS systems in Australia and one of Trimble’s largest surveying instruments distributors worldwide.

Milestones

• 1927: Frederick John apprenticed Edward Bright. The business Herga & Co was moved to 181 Edward Street near McArthur Chambers and during World War 1 repaired instruments for American Forces.
• 1974: Edward’s son Paul Bright, Civil Engineer began in the business Herga Instruments which had moved premises to 21 Jeays Street and expanded the product line to electronic distance measurers.
• 1988: Herga’s 100th Birthday saw the company undergo a significant expansion plan for the next decade ensuring Herga’s dominance in the industry in the coming century.
• 1996: Paul Bright moved the company to its current premises 33 Allison Street, a purpose built building on Breakfast Creek and began the interstate expansion.
• 1997: Ultimate Positioning NSW was formed followed by Ultimate Positioning Vic/Tas in 1999 and affiliation with Ultimate Positioning SA in 2001.
• 2004: Herga Instruments Pty Ltd together with its subsidiary companies Ultimate Positioning (NSW) and Ultimate Positioning (Victoria) formed a single company trading as Ultimate Positioning.
